Saga Dawa Festival from Road 20 May 2026

On the full moon day of the fourth Tibetan lunar month, the Saga Dawa Festival from Road is celebrated at Tarboche lap of Mount Kailash. It is the most important religious festival in Tibet. During the festival, everyone recites prayers and plays holy beads. Buddhist literary sources indicate that the Saga Dawa festival from the road honors Sakyamuni's enlightenment, which is why Tibet is deeply immersed in a festive and spiritual atmosphere. It is most famous for the Tarboche Flagpole replacement, the famous pole on the way to Kailash. Every year, a new pole is erected in its place. Saga Dawa Festival from Road, Every year, a new pole is erected in its place. To observe the pole replacing festival and to attach their prayer flags to it, Tibetans flock to the place. Awe and wonder fill the eyes of Tibetans and foreigners alike as they watch the event. There is a belief among Tibetans that an upright flagpole brings their country bad luck.
