Mount Kailash & Mansarovar Lake is the renowned pilgrimage destination which is situated in the China’s autonomous region of Tibet for the four different religions: Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Bonpo (Tibetan indigenous religion). Different religion has different faith on this holy Mount Kailash. For Hindu, it is the exclusive abode of lord Shiva and his consort Parvat. For Buddhist, it is the meditating spot of Sakyamuni (Lord Buddha). Jains describe it as the precise “Center of Universe”. Tibetan indigenous people worship this peak as the savior of entire Tibetan people.
Circumambulating the Holy Kailash Parvat with an elevation of 6714 meters is to attain salvation from all the known and unknown sins ever committed in life. But it is not so easy to rotate the huge periphery on foot because of the rough terrains, altitude sickness and extreme temperature. But the divinity and the peaceful environment with the promise of heavenly pleasure attracts the pilgrims from across the world every year.
Described as the “Jewels of Snow” by the Tibetan people, Mount Kailash is the source to the prominent rivers in Asia namely: The Brahmaputra, The Indus, The Ganges and The Sutlej. It is believed that for thousands of years it has been a meditating spot of great Saints, Monks and priests. It has not only the religious significance but it is also a cynosure of beauty and awe to rest of the world. The route of Nepal has become a common and best way to reach this holy spot.
Mansarovar Lake: Taken from the Sanskrit language the word “Manas” means mind or consciousness an instrument to enlightenment and “Sarovar” Means Lake. Conclusively, Mansarovar (4580m) means the lake of consciousness which lies just beside of holy Mt. Kailash which also has age long religious significance. It is described as the lake of purity by the ancient Holy Scriptures. According to the legends, one can purge from all the sins of life by making one to three rotations of this gigantic lake. In order to attain “Mokshya” the ultimate salvation in life, one has to reach at least the vicinity of the Kailash and Mansarovar. As the Mecca is to the Muslims and the Islam and Church to Christians so are the Kailash and Mansarovar to the Hindus. Whereas Buddhist describe it as meditating spot of Lord Buddha, where he obtain enlightenment. According to the Holy Scriptures, even a single dip into the lake of Mansarovar can free you from the chain of this mortal life (Birth-Death-Rebirth) and secure your place in heaven after death. This lake has so big circumference that it takes three full days to just go through its circumference for the locals and it may take 5-7 days for others. The peaceful simmering ripples of the lakes grip the visitors with a precious memory for life.
